We are three weeks into January and I have been reflecting on how my return to social media and phone usage has gone since my December digital declutter. The truth? I have totally fell into the pit of doom scrolling, ignoring my Instagram time limit, and mindlessly scrolling on my phone to consume depressing and violent news. Why? Because I'm human and I'm not perfect.
I would like to blame it on the wild news cycle we have had the last few weeks, but what it all comes down to is that I am the one in control. I am the one calling the shots and I am the one allowing myself to backslide and let a 3 x 6 piece of plastic with shiny features dictate my life.
I wanted to write this post as a follow up to my declutter to share with you that I am far from perfect. And while the declutter was amazing and much needed, backsliding was easier than expected and getting back on track is MUCH harder than I anticipated. I am a huge list writer, so I journaled this week to come up with some ways to get back on track. Here's what I got:
Leave my phone in my purse during the work hours.
ACTUALLY FOLLOW THE 30 MINUTE LIMIT I SET FOR INSTAGRAM.
When I reach for my phone, ask myself: "What for? Why now? What else?"
Keep my hands busy: work, knitting, reading, cooking, playing with my kids, holding my husbands hand, ANYTHING other than holding a phone.
Let's see if this cathartic purge of a post and these intentions help. I will keep you all posted!
