S.A. Cosby does it again. He is a master at writing high-octane crime fiction that keeps you on the edge of your seat. His books have a way of immediately grabbing your attention and keeping you entranced until the last page. I always compare his writing to watching an action movie. It’s intense, your heart rate spikes, and you need to know how things end, but there are also elements of humanity woven throughout that keep you emotionally invested. All the Sinners Bleed ranks up there with Cosby’s other books, but this one has a police procedural spin to it.
Synopsis:
Sheriff Titus Crown is the first Black sheriff in Charon County, Virginia. Charon is normally a quiet town, but a school shooting rocks the town’s foundation. One of the town’s most beloved teachers is killed in the shooting and Titus’ deputies take down the shooter, raising opposition on if the shooting was justified. Charon’s residents are upset, scared and divided as so learn there is also a serial killer afoot with possible connections to a local church.
Review:
I loved getting to know Sheriff Titus Crown. He is a complex character with unresolved trauma from his past as an FBI agent. He brings all of this to his position and is dedicated to creating a safe space for all of Charon’s residents, regardless of the color of their skin. His job seems to have a massive uphill battle, but now couple that with a school shooting, a murdered schoolteacher with a possible connection to a sicko sacrilegious serial killer. Titus has his hands full!
Reading this book felt like riding along in a high-speed chase. Buckle up, because once you read the first few pages, you’ll want to clear your calendar until you finish. The religious aspect of the serial killer was so incredibly creepy and had me absolutely hooked. Much of the story reminded me of True Detective season 1: troubled but ethical investigator, creepy religious undertones, murder after murder that seems to be amplifying. I was into it. The added aspect of deep-rooted racism and a local confederate group added intensity and build up to the story.
I am a huge fan of S.A. Cosby and highly recommend his books if you are a lover of high-octane crime thrillers. Check out my reviews of his backlist: Blacktop Wasteland and Razorblade Tears. (I always imagine Denzel Washington as Cosby’s protagonist. Read and tell me otherwise!)
