I didn't touch my phone for 24 hours, and here's what happened...

…..the world didn't end!

But really, this was a challenge for me, as much as I hate to admit it. In this world where our phones feel like another extension of ourselves, I have been wanting to do a phone cleanse. I have taken social media sabbaticals, but never where I made myself avoid my phone all together. This was new to me and was more of a challenge than I expected.

Friday evening, I put my phone in my purse by our entry way and left it there until Sunday morning. I will admit, I used it to stream an audiobook for my run and quickly checked a text message from my best friend to let her know I was alive and just avoiding my phone for a bit. Other than that, phone free for me. I realize not everyone has this luxury to be able to do this, but if you can, I highly recommend you designate "no phone zones" in your life, whether it be specific times of the day you avoid it or specific areas of your house where phones are off limits.

So what did I do?

I finished a book. (The Year of the Witching review to come :)

I went on a hike with my family at a beautiful state park.

I took pictures with the camera my husband gifted me when I started this blog.

I enjoyed nature and really soaked it in.

I went on a run and felt strong.

I did random projects around the house.

I relaxed with a cup of coffee.

I started a new journal.

I celebrated Halloween with my kiddos.

I cooked healthy and delicious meals.

I put my laundry away after washing it. (This is a big one for me!)

Most importantly, I was present. Present with my children, my husband, and myself.

I reflected on the time I spend scrolling on my phone and how that tears me away from the reality around me. I also reflected on how I want to set a good example for my children and not let them see me on my phone 24/7. The first few hours, I felt a pull to go check my notifications, but the longer I went, the easier it got to break the habit and the prouder I was of myself.

I lived!
