The Arrangement by Robyn Harding dives into the dark world of paid relationships and how quickly they can sour.
Nat is a struggling art student, living in New York City, who signs up to be a "sugar baby" in order to make ends meet. What starts out as an innocent, but slightly unethical way to make money, turns Nat's world upside down. Nat meets Gabe, who becomes her "sugar daddy," and ends up catching feelings that she was not expecting to have. Gabe is an older gentleman with a wife and teenage daughter, has a successful business with more money than he knows what to do with, and Nat quickly becomes smitten with him. The feelings are mutual as Gabe starts to fall for Nat. When Gabe suddenly ends their relationship, Nat's world shatters out from under her and the mayhem begins.
Unreliable narrators are a common theme with thrillers. While that is what this book has, it also changes throughout the book, which I loved. I love when an author has you thinking one way about a character and midway through the book has you questioning everything you read in the first half. That is exactly what Harding does with The Arrangement. You will be reading and questioning who the crazy one really is.
The Arrangement is twisty, dark, and fast paced. The twists and surprises were nothing crazy, but they surprised me nonetheless. That to me is a sign of a good thriller. Predictability kills it for me. (No pun intended.) I highly recommend this one if you enjoy an entertaining, fast paced thriller or if you are new to reading thrillers. There are a few clichés and exaggerations, but overall, it is just a fun read.
I gave The Arrangement by Robyn Harding a ★★★★ rating. While it did not blow me away, it was a solid read, and one that I flew through within days.
