Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to Simon & Schuster, 37 Ink, and Dawnie Walton for the gifted copy of The Final Revival of Opal & Nev. This is hands down the best marketing campaign I have ever seen for a book. #partner
Give me more new releases like this! The Final Revival of Opal & Nev by Dawnie Walton blew me away. I went into this one after briefing reading the synopsis and assuming it would be like Daisy Jones & The Six. While The Final Revival of Opal & Nev is similar to Daisy Jones, it is different and so much more. Congratulations Dawnie Walton on a stellar debut novel! Opal & Nev is fast paced and immersive, filled with the glamour and the horror that came with rock and roll in the 1970's. I cannot sing this one enough praise and will do my damnedest to make sure everyone gets this book in their hands.
Synopsis:
Opal & Nev became household names after a deadly riot that began during one of their shows. The duo quickly rose to fame in the 1970's, bringing their own style to rock and roll. Opal is fierce, independent, opinionated, and not afraid to make a splash. She balances out Nev's cool as a cucumber British style. The two find themselves in the midst of a controversy after one of their shows errupts in a riot with a rival band brandishing the controversial Confederate flag at their concert. What ensues is rock and roll history, and reporter Sunny Shelton is interviewing everyone involved to write a book about the true story behind this mysterious duo. Sunny has a personal connection to Opal that takes the interview deeper than they both expected, uncovering secrets that were buried deep years ago. The Final Revival of Opal & Nev is an oral history of the Opal & Nev's history, both as a duo and as individual artists, told through interview format and news clippings. Bottom line, it'll rock your socks off.
Mel's Thoughts:
The Final Revival of Opal & Nev is hands down one of my favorite new releases of the year. I loved everything about it: the rock and roll vibes, Opal's kick ass/take names attitude, the scandal between the two, the social injustice messaging that is still prevalent today. I could go on and on (believe me, I think I already have) but this is a must read, especially for music lovers. This book is being compared to Daisy Jones & the Six, which it is similar in the sense that it is an historical fiction oral history told through interview format and there is *somewhat* of a potential love story/controversy between the two lead singers, but what Daisy Jones lacks, Opal picks up. The two are nothing a like, besides the fact that they are female vocalists.
I am not exaggerating when I say that if you loved Daisy Jones, you will become obsessed with Opal & Nev. Mid-way through the digital galley, I was fighting to keep my eyes from succumbing to sleep, when BAM! a twist came out of nowhere and I was floored. This book is a page turner people! I have a feeling the audiobook will be stellar. If you need any recommendations on an audiobook platform, let me know! I can send you a promo link to get three free audiobooks through Audiobooks.com. They have all the hot new releases and are my go to platform for audiobooks.
Thank you to Net Galley for the digital galley, in exchange for an honest review. And a million thank yous to the publisher, 37 Ink, for the gifted finished copy of this fabulous book and all the swag! #partner
