The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine is a wild, psychological ride. I love a good unreliable narrator and the feeling of being blindsided that only a good psychosocial thriller can do. This one delivers just that. Split into two parts and told from dual perspectives, this book keeps you guessing until the end. I listened to the audio version and enjoyed the narration that was done by two people. It brought the characters alive and added substance to the story. I highly recommend thrillers like this one on audio. They are wildly entertaining.
Daphne Parrish seems to have it all. A beautiful mansion, amazing designer label clothes, a successful charity dedicated to her late sister, two lovely daughters, and a handsome, doting husband. Amber appears out of nowhere and seems to have so much in common with Daphne, that she takes her under her wing and treats her like the little sister she so desperately misses. But Amber has a hidden agenda. It is unclear what Amber is after; Daphne’s wealth? Her charity? Her husband? But she has Daphne fooled and wrapped around her finger. Amber slowly begins her plan on seducing Daphne’s handsome and wildly successful husband, Jackson.
The things that make a good thriller for me are cliff hangers and unpredictable twists. I love when an author can deliver a good twist and catch me, as the reader, off guard. The Last Mrs. Parrish delivers just that.
The first half of the book is told from Amber’s perspective. She is manipulative, conniving, and ruthless. Her inner dialogue gives away her true self, while she puts on an innocent façade in front of Daphne and Jackson. The second half of the book is told from Daphne’s perspective and you quickly uncover where the storyline will go.
This book was entertaining, shocking, a bit dark, and surprisingly really good. I can be picky with thrillers, but this one hit the mark. I loved the deep dive into the human psyche and how twisted and dark these characters were. The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liz Constantine is solid 4.5/5 and a thriller I will recommend to others. (Fun fact I learned after reading this, Liz Constantine is the pen name for sisters Lynne and Valerie Constantine.)
