I managed to read a couple books this week from my library haul -> check out that snow stack! I found a couple goodies in the used book section for a mere $3 and checked out a few recent prints that have been on my TBR list. I ended up going back on President's Day and found another Ruth Ware novel, The Lying Game, to add to my collection. I am becoming a used book addict, I don't think I can go back to paying full price! It is so exciting to rummage through the stacks and find something I've had my eye on, priced at only $1 or $2. It reminds me of thrift sale season, which I am currently dreaming of while we are covered under atleast three feet of snow
Earlier in the week, I finished Looker by Laura Sims. I gave it a ☆☆☆.5 and would recommend it to anyone who likes psychological thrillers. It almost doesn't fit into the thriller category, but it kept my interest. The book is from the point of view of an unnamed woman who is obsessed with her neighbor, who is a famous actress. The main character slowly unravels as the book progresses, consumed with her obsession and possible mental illness. It is a small book, but it packed a lot between its covers. I felt like I was inside the main character's mind, listening to her erratic thoughts. Highly recommend if that is up your alley.
The second book I finished was The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory. This one is currently the February pick for Reese Witherspoon's book club, Hello Sunshine. I was excited for this one because of the rave reviews and...well...Reese Witherspoon, hello! Anything she touches is amazing. Needless to say, I was mildly disappointed with this one. I gave it ☆☆☆. I think it just wasn't for me. It is a contemporary romance from the perspective of Nik, an LA based writer who is unexpectedly proposed to by her boyfriend of only five months while at an LA Dodgers baseball game, and Carlos, a handsome doctor who happens to witness the awkward proposal and intervenes. It is a cute story and is very sugary, sweet. To be honest, I put it down a couple times with the intention of not finishing it, but the Type A in me wouldn't let it go, so I stuck it out. If contemporary romance is your jam, then this one is for you. After the odd heaviness of Looker, this was a nice one to throw into the mix.
